Self-Love Matters

Self-love matters because it is important for your mental health and well-being. It can improve your self-esteem, reduce stress, build resilence, motivate positive behavior, empower you to take risks, and boost your self-confidence.

The first step is to understand your thoughts, feelings, and responses and start writing them down in a journal. This will be your “go to guide” to know yourself better and understand why you react the way you do in certain situations. Note: write in your journal with truth and honesty.

Self-love is about accepting yourself wholeheartedly, and treating yourself with kindness, compassion and respect. It begins with having a high regard of yourself and your own well-being and happiness. Self-love means taking care of your own needs and not sacrificing your own well being to please others.

We develop self-love by getting to know ourselves, while we develop self-compassion by being gentle with ourselves. Self-love is more than just accepting our outer appearance (hair, skin and body), it’s about seeing the darkest parts of ourselves and not turning away from them; but learning what causes us to react in certain ways. It’s also about learning what makes you the best version of yourself; it’s about letting that real version of you be seen and appreciated for who you are.

Here are some helpful steps to cultivate Self-Love:

  • Become mindful. People who have more self-love tend to know what they think, feel, and want.

  • Act on what you need rather than what you want.

  • Practive good self-care

  • Set boundaries.

  • Protect Yourself.

  • Forgive Yourself

  • Live intentionally.

Here are some Self-Love tips:

  • Practice positive self-talk.

  • Say positive affirmations out loud.

  • Don’t sat negative things about yourself.

  • Maintain positive healthy relationships with others.

The most important thing to remember about self-love is to LOVE YOURSELF UNCONDITIONALLY!
