I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH YOU....The vision of how BRIMI got started!
Let me first start off by saying this vision came from God. I asked God could he use me with the knowledge and experience I had at that moment in my life. He answered "yes" thus BRIMI was born. THE STORY....It all started one morning when I was driving on I-285N, a highway in Atlanta, Georgia. I traveled this highway five days a week. One day in 2006, I called my best friend and we talked on the phone about many things, but this particular morning I brought up the subject about "giving back".
I said, "we go to work everyday for years, then one day it hits you that you must give back." I also said "we’ve been afforded a good life, and we all have journeys to travel in life where we will encounter change, challenges, trials and tribulations, but we still have something to offer." After we spoke for a while we hung up. It was that conversation that sparked a newness and desire inside me. I started thinking and remembering the question I asked God "could he use me?" And I remembered his answer to me was "yes". That confirmation from God and the conversation with my best friend reminded me that I had purpose in my life, I just needed to tap into it. I began to realize that I had something to give, whether it was to share inspiring words to help someone realize how great and valuable they are, or help someone become stronger in knowing who they are, or help someone become the best version of themselves just by reminding them that they are beautiful just the way they are. I knew I had something to give. God knew the desire of my heart and where my spirit was leading me. He knew I desired to do something for young women. I began to notice a change happening in society in the way young women began to carry themselves. It was in a manner that reflected self-doubt, lack of confidence, and low self-esteem. It was as if I saw them not loving who they are and not knowing who they were created to be. They appeared unaware of their potential GREATNESS. From that moment, my mind was thinking about what to do and how to do it. Initially, my thoughts were how to start an organization to help young women. I had no experience in this field, but I had the heart to make a difference. I was moved and inspired by the desire for young women to love themselves again. With much thought about the name of the organization, I started with different letters in my head, and I knew I wanted “beauty” to be the focus of the organization. I knew if I could just help young women see themselves for who they truly are and see their beauty, then it could help build up their self esteem. I also wanted to ensure that young women understood that the beauty I was referring to, pertained to the beauty inside themselves. It was then that God sent me the letters BRIMI and the letters meant (Beauty Resides In My Image). When this was given to me, I knew what it meant and that I needed to spread the word to young women and express to them that beauty does reside in their "own" image. I told God that I could handle the assignment he had given me, because I understood what he wanted me to do. He explained to me that my sole mission in this assignment was to remind young women that they were made in the image that he created and not to second guess that. Although the vision was sent to me in 2006, it took many years of growing, learning, listening, and researching to clearly understand what is needed for our young women dealing with an image crisis. They need to be heard and they need our support! I will continue to pursue whatever it takes to help build up their self-esteem. Thank you for taking the time to read this message and I hope that you will support BRIMI too. Sincerely, Robin Barnes Founder |
